- Cindy Dickson
Dickson-President/Founder- Cindy is a civilian employee of the
Suffolk County Police Department, working as a dispatcher for
the past 19 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St.
Joseph's College, majoring in Elementary Education. Cindy began
Suffolk County Homefront, Inc. in 2007 after the loss of a
family member to the war in Iraq. Cpl Matthew Dillon was KIA by
an IED December 11, 2006. It is in his honor and memory that
our mission is carried out.
Cindy is married and has two daughters, Brianna 21 and Meghan 20
and twin step children Scott and Valerie 28. In her spare time
she likes to be out enjoying nature with a camera in hand. She
also likes to travel and spend time with her friends and family.
Ret. Sgt. Rene Rivera - NY Nat'l Guard
is currently a Control Room Operator for Siemens Energy at the
Caithness Long Island Energy Center in Yaphank NY. As a Control
Room Operator he is responsible for the safe and efficient
operation of a 350 MW combined cycle power plant.
Prior to arriving at Caithness, Rene was an Auxiliary Plant
Operator for 8yrs with General Electric and Calpine.
Rene enlisted in the US Army Reserves in 1983 and
was assigned to the 42nd Military Police Company.
After 3 years he transferred to the 102nd Medical
Battalion. Rene ultimately transferred to 1/69th
Infantry Battalion where he remained for the remainder of his
During his military career he was called up for
numerous state emergencies. He was deployed for Sea Gate sand
bag operations, hurricane Gloria, and the Long Island wild fires
1995 just to name a few, During the blizzard in 1996 he assisted
the NYPD and EMS Personnel on emergency 911 calls,
After 9/11 Rene assisted with recovery work at Ground Zero and
provided bridge and tunnel check points, He later assisted the
NYPD with subway security.
Rene was deployed in 2004 to Bagdad, Iraq. It is
here where he spent a year securing the now infamous “Route
Irish”. After his return from his tour in Iraq, Rene retired
from the military in 2006.
Rene has remained very active in veteran’s
affairs. He is currently the Vice President of Suffolk County
Home Front, an organization that provides support for active
duty military soldiers and veterans like him.
Rene is married and the father of 5 children. He
currently resides in Mastic Beach, NY.
Steven Dickson -
Dickson- Treasurer- Steven is a retired Suffolk County police
officer who served 23 years in law enforcement. After retiring
from police work Steven spent 3 years as a production
planning manager for a defense subcontractor on Long Island and
then moved onto his current job as a tax examiner with the
Internal Revenue Service. Steven has had an extensive military
career which began with the U.S Air Force as a RADAR operator in
July 1974. His active duty assignment ended in 1977 and in 1981
he joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as a Port Security Petty
Officer. He is currently a Senior Chief Petty Officer with 33
years of service.
Steven has a
Bachelor of Science from Dowling College and an AAS degree in
Criminal Justice from SUNY Farmingdale. Steven also recently
completed an Accounting Certificate from Suffolk County
Community College. He is married and has twin's Scott and
Valerie, 28 and two step-daughters, Brianna 21 and Meghan 20.
His hobbies include hunting and flying his airplane.
